We dedicate hundreds of hours each year, without pay, to serve the needs of the community through pro bono legal work and educational seminars. Pro bono work fits with our philosophy of giving back to the community by using our legal skills to assist the startup ecosystem and enrich the lives of our clients and our team.
We give our pro bono clients the same level of commitment and focus that our IP and technology clients enjoy. This community work broadens our horizons and sharpens our skills as we litigate, negotiate, and counsel clients on some of the most important issues that impact their lives and their organization’s livelihood.
Our community support includes counseling small businesses and educating them regarding IP issues that may affect their companies. Our attorneys also provide pro bono copyright, trademark, and licensing advice to small business people and non-profit, community-supported organizations that can’t afford to pay for legal representation. These pro bono clients include artists and writers.
We also support a healthy pro bono litigation practice focused on criminal cases. Our attorneys have acted as lead counsel in several criminal trials (bench and jury) and federal court appeals. This work includes post-conviction proceedings involving chemical analysis of lead bullets, constitutional violations, and collaboration with the Innocence Project on efforts to test genetic evidence used in criminal cases.
